1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
In light of the most recent exposure on Roman Catholic child abuse, it is indicated now that two recent popes knew about the abuse of a cardinal, and chose not to take any action. Now these are thundering allegations which are still being scrutinized, but this is the drip drip drip of this problem in the RCC based on concealment, secrecy, and evil company.
Roman Catholics whether they admit or not are struggling with this problem. Some choose just to ignore it completely, calling “rubbish” and “fake news”. Hoping in vain that no more news reports come out.
I do believe God allows sin, but it is never outside His control and we see this in this judgment being handed down to the RCC. By His sovereignty, it also can be looked at a way to WAKE UP the sleeping Catholic to His truth. Those drawn to Jesus Christ are not ignoring this judgment, they are attentively now testing their faith in such a church which would cover up such evil within its walls.
And make no mistake, the drip drip drip, has now lasted for over 25 years. One would think that a church being headed by Jesus Christ would squash the evil as soon as it presented itself as the Bible commands. “Purge the evil among you”. But the RCC has failed completely to do this and follows the same pattern. A large abuse case is exposed, the church uses all sorts of rhetoric claiming they are serious now to clean up this problem, and then we see the next case.
And the ENLIGHTENING thing to this, is that the crimes are NOT being presented by the RCC but exposed by secular sources who have to endure the drip drip drip. Jesus said to “confess your sins”, bring them out in the open. Not “wait until secular authorities press you for years and a grand jury needed to expose your crimes”. The church Jesus is actually building does not conceal sin, they call it out, the repent.
The below is actually the church Jesus continues to build. Those outside the church follow a different ideology. God would not let His church be corrupted continuously by evil doers. Peter did not cover up and conceal their crime and claim “well the Jews do the same thing, so let’s give them a break shall we?”. God called it, Peter did not waver.
Acts 5:1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6 And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7 Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. 11 So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.
