A common line declared upon the death of an individual is “may he or she rest in peace”. It’s design is to be seemingly comforting, but is it really? Because if we really look into this further, it is in fact not a comforting declaration.

Because the total brutal truth is that when one dies, they were already resting in peace in their Savior Jesus Christ, or they weren’t. And if they weren’t? Well, that rest will never show itself after death. Many world religions such as Roman Catholicism will attempt try to pray that soul into heaven after death, something that is not possible if we believe the truth revealed in Scripture. Hebrews 9:27 unequivocally teaches us, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment”. God has appointed this, there is no deviations from His promises which are immutable.

So when is the time to come into that “rest” and by that you can “rest in peace”? Scripture again teaches us in Romans 5:1 “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, ² through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God”. The time is NOW! Not after death, but NOW.

Jesus teaches us further in Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus was not teaching this as sometime in the future, the time is NOW. You can come into His rest and thus rest in peace. Your pending death will not stop this resting peace either, as by this salvation you are also granted eternal life. Praying for a soul which has passed away is silly and futile, because the time has also passed in which they could have come into the rest of Jesus Christ.

The Christian who passes away, was already resting in peace! Those who did not place their faith alone in Jesus Christ never came into His rest, thus they will never rest in peace. Again, God doesn’t change His mind on His promises, His judgment is not in flux. The time is right now, today! Place your faith alone in Jesus Christ, discard all those false theologies and world religions which never promise you rest and peace. They would rather you NOT have ANY peace or rest with God through Jesus Christ because suddenly you are not dependent on them for peace and rest which will never come.

Roman Catholicism for example will put road blocks up to this peace and rest which is always out of the grasp of the lost Catholic. And then they attempt to keep a soul dependent on their “church” in fictional purgatory AFTER death, where there is no peace or any rest either! Discard that false religion in the trash for your own good! Make no mistake and with God as my witness, I declare that Jesus Christ offers total peace, total rest!

Do you have peace, do you have rest in your eternal life? Really ask yourself this question, because once death comes, that answer cannot change and will not change. Those who are already resting in peace with God through Jesus Christ die knowing this rest and peace never goes away, it is there for an eternity! Do you really want this rest and peace with God? Repent (turn away) of your sins and believe solely on Jesus Christ as your Savior and as your Lord. When that peace and rest comes into your heart from God, there is NO mistaking it! No one can snatch you out of that rest or peace either. You discard anyone or any “church” which tries to do so. You will be resting in peace, right here and right now for an eternity!
